HOW IT AFFECTED HISTORY
Comparing the size of a Tiger tank (Left) and a Teletank (Right) to a person
Many people don't think of the teletank when they think of a remote controlled tank and probably have never even heard of it. However, the teletank inspired the creation of many other remote controlled tanks and unmanned vehicles to be created throughout history. There are many times in history when people built vehicles that were remote controlled. Viktor Dmitrievich in an interview said, "The lunar rover? It is – indeed – the most genuine example of a teletank!" This man actually worked on a teletank! The lunar rover is technically a tank, but with no weapons to attack. You can read the interview, translated from Russian into English, here. The lunar rover is similar to a teletank, small and remote controlled. The lunar rover has greatly affected history. People have learned an ample amount of knowledge about the moon and Mars from information gathered by rovers. The lunar rover might not have been invented, or at least not as soon, if the teletank was not invented.
The teletanks fought in the largest tank battle in history, which was in Kursk, Russia. It was the Germans against the Soviets. They both had many, many tanks. The Germans had the Tiger tanks and Panther tanks, and the Soviets had teletanks. The Germans attacked with the tanks, but the German tanks were too big and hard to maneuver. Even though the Tiger tanks could easily just crush a teletank under a tread, Tiger tanks would sink into the mud before they could do this. The Soviet's teletank was much faster and more maneuverable, so the Soviets easily won the tank battle of Kursk. This showed that bigger is not always better.
This also changed the course of the war for the Soviets because they were not losing lives to fight the Germans, they were just losing metal and machinery. The teletank was extremely maneuverable. If a slow, incredibly powerful giant was chasing you, would you rather be fast and maneuverable, or slow but very powerful? The Soviets must have thought the former was better. The Teletank was one of the first notable remote controlled tanks in history and the first tank to introduce the idea of being smaller and having more maneuverability than many other traditional tanks.
